Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) is creating a new landmark on the specialized street ‘Hapjeong-dong Sky Road,’ which was established last November to revitalize the neighborhood commercial district.

‘Sky Road’ is a shopping street covering a total area of 90,338㎡, stretching from Exit 7 of Hapjeong Station to Mapo Saebit Cultural Forest, featuring a uniquely sky-blue painted road.

With about 190 shops including independent bookstores, distinctive cafes, and popular restaurants, as well as historical and cultural resources such as Mapo Saebit Cultural Forest, Yanghwa Naru, Jeoldusan Martyrs’ Shrine, and the Foreign Missionaries’ Cemetery, this unique commercial district attracts the attention of tourists in their 20s and 30s.

In March this year, the district plans to create a ‘Wish Plaza’ at the resting area in front of Exit 7 of Hapjeong Station, themed around ‘wishes’ to match the Sky Road concept.

Wish trees scattered throughout Sky Road will be gathered and rearranged near Exit 7 of Hapjeong Station, decorated with various flowers suitable for spring.

Lighting protection panels will be installed on the street trees around the wish trees, and red, green, and blue LED lights will create a mystical urban landscape along Sky Road.

Additionally, in line with the concept of ‘the road where wishes come true,’ the district plans to hold wish bell and wish ball events to offer diverse attractions.

Furthermore, stands will be installed around the wish trees so visitors can hang wish bells they have written on, creating a distinctive street scene.

Park Gang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “The creation of Wish Plaza is part of a commercial revitalization project aimed at attracting the large flow of people from Exit 7 of Hapjeong Station to every corner of Sky Road. I hope the Wish Plaza, beautifully decorated year-round, will become a landmark on Sky Road that many tourists enjoy visiting.”

The district plans to further raise awareness of Sky Road and develop it into a representative tourist attraction of Mapo-gu alongside the Hongdae Red Road. The district also plans to introduce a multilingual support system in the future, along with unmanned information terminals explaining how to use Sky Road, to make it convenient for foreign tourists entering through Hongdae Red Road.
