"Kiss the Shoes"... Chased After Running Away
Another Incident of Racism Since 2020

A video showing four white men forcing a Black male student to kneel and kiss their shoes has sparked controversy.

On the 17th (local time), major foreign media reported that on the 15th, in Cumbria, located in the northwest of England, a Black male student was mocked and assaulted by four white male students.

In the video, the Black male student wearing a school uniform is surrounded and assaulted by white students. When he eventually collapses to the ground, one of the white perpetrators forces the victim to "kiss my shoes." The Black victim refuses several times but ultimately cannot resist the coercion and kisses the muddy shoes of the perpetrator. Afterwards, the white male students persistently chase the fleeing Black victim and continue the assault.

Cumbria police announced that they arrested one of the white perpetrators on the day of the incident and arrested the remaining three white perpetrators the following day. The police stated, "We confirmed that videos and images related to a hate crime incident stemming from racism were circulated online and have launched an investigation," adding, "All those arrested are four teenage boys from Carlisle, Cumbria."

The police also said, "One of the four was arrested on charges of assault, and the other three were arrested on charges of racially aggravated assault," and urged, "Since the suspects have been arrested, please refrain from further sharing of videos to protect the rights of the victim."

Forcing someone to kiss shoes is a representative act of racial discrimination. Previously, in July 2020, a white teenager living in the UK was tried for assaulting a Black boy with autism and forcing him to kiss shoes. At that time, foreigners residing in the UK strongly criticized the act as "clear racial discrimination."
