Significant Contribution to Alleviating Chronic Traffic Congestion by Distributing Traffic During Commute Hours at the Existing Anmin Tunnel
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, conducted a safety inspection of the overall road facilities ahead of the opening of Seokdong Tunnel (tentatively named the 2nd Anmin Tunnel), which connects Cheonseon-dong in Seongsan-gu and Seok-dong in Jinhae-gu, on the 18th.

The 'Seokdong Tunnel Construction Project' began in April 2016 to alleviate the traffic congestion of the existing Anmin Tunnel and to facilitate smooth transportation of industrial cargo between the National Industrial Complex and Busan New Port.
The project involves a total length of 3.85 km (1.96 km tunnel) with a four-lane road for two-way traffic. The Busan Regional Land Management Office is implementing the project, and Changwon City is handling compensation. The total project cost is 199.5 billion KRW (156 billion KRW from the national government and 43.5 billion KRW from the city government).
Once the Seokdong Tunnel opens, it is expected to efficiently disperse surrounding traffic congestion, providing convenience to road users by resolving chronic vehicle congestion. Additionally, it will connect the Seokdong?Sosa?Noksan road and the Guigok?Haengam road, significantly contributing to reducing logistics costs for businesses.
Furthermore, with the early opening coinciding with the 62nd Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, it is expected to offer traffic convenience along with the enjoyment of beautiful cherry blossoms to visitors from across the country coming to Changwon.
Mayor Hong said, “I am honored that the Seokdong Tunnel, a long-awaited project by our citizens, is about to open. It is expected to greatly contribute to resolving chronic vehicle congestion.” He added, “From the perspective of road users, we will immediately improve any facilities that need enhancement by identifying safety blind spots and will conduct thorough safety inspections until the final opening.”
