Lee Soo-man (72), former Chief Producer of SM Entertainment, is reported to have donated a large sum of over 100 million won for Hakjeon, a small theater in Daehak-ro that closed its doors on the 15th.
According to industry sources on the 17th, Producer Lee Soo-man recently contributed more than 100 million won to support the final chapter of Hakjeon, which is disappearing into the annals of history after 33 years.
Hakjeon closed on the 15th due to chronic financial difficulties compounded by the deteriorating health of its representative, Kim Min-ki. The donation from Producer Lee was used to resolve Hakjeon’s financial issues. Thanks to the sincerity of Lee and his colleagues, as well as the proceeds from the ‘Hakjeon Again’ performances held until the 15th, all of Representative Kim’s debts were fortunately cleared.
Lee Soo-man, who is also a junior alumnus of Seoul National University to Kim Min-ki, has built a long-standing relationship with him, including participating together in club activities.
Lee Soo-man is known to have described Kim Min-ki to those around him as “a quiet and unassuming poet who silently takes responsibility when it is necessary,” and said he is “a highly respected figure who laid the foundation for Korean singers.”
Hakjeon closed after its final ‘Hakjeon Again’ performance on the 15th. Representative Kim Min-ki opened the Hakjeon Small Theater in Daehak-ro on March 15, 1991, with the intention of creating a “nursery for talents in the cultural and arts sector,” and operated it for 33 years. Earlier, Representative Kim decided to close the Hakjeon Small Theater due to chronic financial difficulties and a diagnosis of stomach cancer, leaving a farewell message saying, “I am simply grateful to everyone. Thank you.”
