Opposition Proportional Representation: Seo Mihwa, Wi Seongrak, Baek Seunga, Yong Hyein Secure Spots... Seo Seungman Also a Candidate

Democratic United Party Announces 30 Proportional Representation Candidates
16 Women, 2 More Than Men

The Democratic Party's proportional satellite party, the Deobureo Minju Yeonhap, announced the order of 30 proportional representation candidates (16 women and 14 men) on the 17th.


The Democratic Party, Saejinbo Yeonhap, Jinbo Party, and civic groups participating in Deobureo Minju Yeonhap each recommended candidates and selected the final proportional representation candidates. It was agreed that candidate number 1 would be assigned to a nominee recommended by the civic groups.


Proportional candidate number 1 is Seo Mi-hwa, a former non-standing commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission, recommended by the civic groups. Number 2 is Wi Seong-rak, former ambassador to Russia; number 3 is Baek Seung-a, former chairperson of the Gangwon Teachers' Union. Number 4 is Im Gwang-hyun, former deputy commissioner of the National Tax Service, and number 5 is Jeong Hye-gyeong, former vice-chairperson of the Jinbo Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party.


Yong Hye-in, Saejinbo Yeonhap's standing election committee chairperson, who was re-nominated proportionally, was placed at number 6. Chairperson Yong was also elected in the last general election as number 5 on the proportional list of the Democratic Party's satellite party, Deobureo Simindang, while serving as the leader of the Basic Income Party.

Number 7 is Oh Se-hee, former president of the Small Business Federation; number 8 is Park Hong-bae, current chairperson of the Korean Federation of Trade Unions National Financial Industry Union; number 9 is Kang Yoo-jung, professor at Gangnam University; number 10 is Han Chang-min, spokesperson for the Justice Party; number 11 is Jeon Jong-deok, former secretary-general of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions; number 12 is Kim Yoon, professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine; number 13 is Im Mi-ae, chairperson of the Democratic Party Gyeongbuk Provincial Party; number 14 is Jeong Eul-ho, secretary-general of Deobureo Minju Yeonhap; and number 15 is Son Sol, senior spokesperson of the Jinbo Party.


It was interpreted that the three candidates recommended by the Jinbo Party (Jeong Hye-gyeong, Jeon Jong-deok, Son Sol) were placed in electable positions at numbers 5, 11, and 15 respectively. Four years ago, in the 21st general election, the Democratic Party's satellite party, Deobureo Simindang, won seats up to number 17.


Number 16 is Choi Hyuk-jin, former social economy secretary in the Moon Jae-in administration; number 17 is lawyer Lee Joo-hee; number 18 is Kim Jun-hwan, former deputy director of the National Intelligence Service; number 19 is Ko Jae-soon, former secretary-general of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation; and number 20 is Kim Young-hoon, train operator at Korea Railroad Corporation.

The four nominees recommended by the civic groups were assigned numbers 1 (Seo Mi-hwa), 12 (Kim Yoon), 17 (Lee Joo-hee), and 20 (Kim Young-hoon). Initially, the civic groups recommended Im Tae-hoon, former director of the Military Human Rights Center, but Deobureo Minju Yeonhap cut him off citing 'military service evasion' as the reason. The civic groups re-nominated Im Tae-hoon, but Deobureo Minju Yeonhap did not accept it, and on this day, former Korean Confederation of Trade Unions chairperson Kim Young-hoon was assigned number 20.


Number 21 is Kwak Eun-mi, former director of the Democratic Party International Bureau; number 22 is Jo Won-hee, former chairperson of the Democratic Party Gyeongsangbuk Provincial Party Farmers and Fishermen Committee; number 23 is Baek Hye-sook, CEO of Eco Ship 11; number 24 is comedian Seo Seung-man; and number 25 is Jeon Ye-hyun, visiting professor at Woosuk University.

Number 26 is Seo Jae-heon, former youth committee chairperson of the Democratic Party Daegu City Party; number 27 is Heo So-young, former adjunct professor at Hallym University Graduate School of Social Welfare; number 28 is Choi Young-seung, president of the Korean Association of Judicial Scriveners; number 29 is Kang Kyung-yoon, former director of the Democratic Party Women's Bureau; and number 30 is Song Chang-wook, former secretary for institutional reform in the Moon Jae-in administration.


Yoon Young-deok, co-representative of Deobureo Minju Yeonhap, said, "The proportional representation candidates are talents who will represent the vulnerable in our society, restore democracy that has been broken by the tyranny of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, protect peace on the Korean Peninsula, and illuminate the future of the Republic of Korea." He added, "With tax cuts for the rich and soaring prices, Korea's economy is becoming increasingly difficult day by day, and the people are groaning on the edge of a cliff. The Deobureo Minju Yeonhap proportional representation candidates will do their best to revive Korea's economy and fill the lives of the people with warmth."
