A man in his 40s who assaulted his wife to the extent that her nasal bone was fractured, suspecting her of infidelity, was sentenced to a suspended prison term.
On the 17th, Judge Kim Ji-hoo of the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 2 announced that A (41), who was indicted on charges of special assault and injury, was sentenced to one year in prison with a two-year suspension.
A was charged with assaulting his wife B's head twice with the handle of a weapon at their home in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, around 3 a.m. on May 29 last year. Six hours later, he also went to B's workplace and punched her in the face. B was diagnosed at the hospital with a nasal bone fracture and injuries requiring three weeks of treatment.
Investigations revealed that A committed the crime because he suspected his wife of having an affair.
The court stated, "Considering the circumstances and method of the defendant's crime, the nature of the offense is serious," and "the injuries sustained by the victim are not minor." However, the court explained the sentencing by saying, "The defendant is a first-time offender with no prior criminal record, and he acknowledged his wrongdoing and showed remorse."
