Support for Vulnerable Groups Raising Dogs and Cats... Only for Registered Animals
Bring ID and Qualification Certificate to Designated Veterinary Clinic in Jurisdiction
Mandatory (Basic Checkup) and Optional Treatment Supported up to 200,000 KRW per Animal
Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) has launched the '2024 Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital Project' this month to alleviate the medical expenses burden for pets of vulnerable groups.
The support targets vulnerable groups (basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, single-parent families) residing in Dongdaemun-gu who own dogs or cats. Applicants must bring their ID and proof of vulnerable status in person to one of the five animal hospitals designated by the district (▲El ▲Jeyeon ▲Atti ▲Ttangkong ▲New World) to apply.
Up to 200,000 KRW per animal is provided for 'essential treatments' (▲basic health checkup ▲mandatory vaccinations ▲heartworm prevention medication). Additionally, up to 200,000 KRW is supported for 'optional treatments' such as surgery or neutering for diseases discovered during the basic health checkup.
Pet owners are responsible for a consultation fee of 5,000 KRW per visit (up to 10,000 KRW) and any amount exceeding 200,000 KRW for 'optional treatments.'
Support is provided only for registered animals; unregistered dogs and cats can receive support after registering their pets (implantable microchip registration).
Mayor Ilpyeong Lee of Dongdaemun-gu said, “We hope the Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital Project will ease the medical expense burden for vulnerable groups’ pets. We also ask for compliance with animal registration and leash use during outings to foster a healthy pet culture.”
