Jeong Woo-taek, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly who was excluded from the People Power Party's nomination due to allegations of accepting money envelopes, requested a reconsideration of the decision on the 15th. He also mentioned the possibility of further statements, leaving open the option of running for office after leaving the party.
In a statement released that day, Deputy Speaker Jeong said, "I express deep regret over the party's nomination committee's decision to cancel the nomination for Cheongju Sangdang District," and added, "I strongly demand not only a reconsideration of the nomination cancellation decision by the party's nomination committee but also a rejection of the decision by the emergency committee, so that the wise residents of Sangdang and the public can directly judge and choose."
He also hinted at possible follow-up actions, stating, "Depending on the party's final decision, I will gather opinions from local residents and party members and announce an additional position."
Deputy Speaker Jeong described the allegations of accepting money envelopes as a "Gibdae-up style election interference political plot." Regarding the party's decision to cancel his nomination, he said, "It is unreasonable to cancel a candidate based solely on suspicions arising from a political plot, and it is against democracy."
