Silla University Department of Physical Education Produces Top Scorer in Busan Secondary Teacher Certification Exam for Two Consecutive Years

The Department of Physical Education at Silla University (President Heo Nam-sik) is gaining attention for producing the top scorer in the ‘Busan Metropolitan City Public Middle School Teacher Appointment Candidate Selection Competitive Examination’ for two consecutive years.

Following alumnus Choi Ji-yoon, class of 2015, who achieved the top score in the 2023 middle school teacher appointment exam, alumnus Sang-rim Lee, also from the class of 2015, earned the honor of top scorer in the 2024 appointment exam.

The Department of Physical Education at Silla University selects five candidates annually for the teacher training program. Selected students must complete both major courses and teacher training courses over two years. Within this short period, they are required to earn more than 22 credits in teacher training courses in addition to their major courses, maintaining minimum required scores in both areas.

Considering that general universities select only a small number of candidates per department for the teacher training program and that support for appointment is relatively challenging, the department’s achievement of producing top scorers for two consecutive years is a proud accomplishment, explained a Silla University official.

The two graduates who achieved top scores in the middle school physical education teacher appointment exam not only earned high grades throughout their four years of university life but also participated in various extracurricular programs to develop the competencies necessary to become physical education teachers.

Kim In-hyung, head of the Department of Physical Education at Silla University, said, “Although the number of teacher training candidates is small, I feel very proud to see my students successfully pursuing careers as educators every year.” He added, “Our efforts to provide opportunities for teacher training candidates to prepare for the appointment exam by utilizing various school programs seem to have led to the excellent result of top scorers for two consecutive years.”
