Kim Young-soon, a member of the Buk-gu District Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, urged a comprehensive inspection of facilities in the district.
On the 14th, during the 2nd plenary session of the 292nd extraordinary meeting, Councilor Kim pointed out, “Buk-gu has sidewalks with a total length of approximately 365 km. However, maintenance has been focused mainly on sidewalks along major urban roads and near apartment complexes, while sections with low foot traffic and old back roads in the old downtown area are severely damaged. Therefore, I suggest that when maintaining sidewalks, on-site inspections should be conducted to reflect the aging and damage status of the sidewalks and prioritize accordingly.”
Regarding vertical circulation mechanical parking lots, he pointed out, “According to the Parking Lot Act, after safety inspections, the inspection certificate must be displayed in an easily visible place. However, there are quite a few parking lots that have not been operated despite being approved for use.” He added, “There has been no administrative sanction from the executive branch against mechanical parking lots that have been approved for construction but are not actually used, which exacerbates the local parking shortage.”
Councilor Kim also mentioned the negligence in safety management of unauthorized settlements in the Duam-dong area, which are exposed to risks of fire and collapse, emphasizing, “The executive branch must conduct a thorough survey and comprehensive inspection of various facilities in the district that require systematic management in the future, and prepare a detailed improvement plan with a long-term vision.”
