Construction of International Exhibition Convention Center to Begin Next Month, Driving Industrial Growth in Daegu and

On the 13th, Pohang Mayor Lee Kang-deok presided over an expanded executive meeting and emphasized the need to devote full efforts to advancing key projects that will drive regional growth for future generations.

On the 13th, Pohang City held an expanded executive meeting chaired by Mayor Lee Kang-deok.

The meeting began with an award ceremony for outstanding departments in the 2023 comprehensive performance management evaluation, followed by thematic reports from the responsible departments on the construction of the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center and the operation of the pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone. The session then proceeded with sharing the status of major tasks by each division and bureau.

Mayor Lee stressed that the construction of the Pohang International Exhibition and Convention Center will serve as an opportunity for Pohang to make a quantum jump through the growth of the local MICE industry and the enhancement of urban competitiveness. He added that this is expected to drive growth across industries, including specialized industries and tourism, such as secondary batteries in Daegu and Gyeongbuk beyond Pohang.

He also stated that, as Pohang has been selected as a pilot area for the Education Development Special Zone, utmost efforts must be made to nurture local talent through educational innovation and to improve local living conditions.

Furthermore, he called for full commitment to establishing the POSTECH medical school, which will improve medical conditions for local residents and foster innovative growth in the bio and pharmaceutical industries. He also urged thorough preparation in advance of the enforcement of the Special Act on Distributed Energy Activation, including designating a specialized area for distributed energy.

In addition, he requested that the 22nd National Assembly election tasks be carried out without any setbacks and that spring wildfire prevention activities and safety inspections during the thawing season be conducted thoroughly.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “We must flawlessly advance core foundational projects for sustainable growth so that future generations can live prosperous lives in the region,” and added, “Let us all work together to ensure that Pohang’s leap forward can lead to greater progress not only in Gyeongbuk but also across the Republic of Korea.”
