In his opening remarks at the meeting, which was jointly organized by the Korea International Trade Association, the Korea-Japan Economic Association, the Japan-Korea Economic Association, and the Japan-Korea Industrial Technology Cooperation Foundation over two days starting from the 13th, Vice Chairman Lee stated, "Japan, one of Korea's four major trading partners, is an important economic partner. It is encouraging that communication has resumed in various fields such as diplomacy, security, and industry following last year's summit between the two countries' leaders."
The Korea-Japan New Industry Trade Meeting is an expert meeting to set the agenda for the Korea-Japan Business Council, a private economic meeting scheduled to be held in Tokyo this May. This meeting was held face-to-face in Tokyo for the first time in six years, with over 80 participants from the governments, businesses, academia, and economic organizations of both Korea and Japan. The theme of the meeting was "Korea-Japan Partnership Leading to the Future."
The first session included presentations on the possibilities of Korea-Japan cooperation in supporting small and medium-sized venture companies, Korea-Japan hydrogen economy industrial strategies, and cooperation plans. The second session featured presentations on realizing broad and diverse exchanges, case studies of advertising companies, cooperation plans in Korea-Japan advanced robotics industries, and expanding talent exchanges.
Vice Chairman Lee attended the meeting as the chairman from the Korean side. Yutaka Aso, Vice Chairman of the Japan-Korea Economic Association and chairman from the Japanese side, said, "Last year, which marked the 25th anniversary of the Korea-Japan Joint Declaration, Korea and Japan achieved genuine normalization of relations."
He continued, "As we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan diplomatic relations, there are issues that both countries commonly face, such as low birth rates, aging populations, and stable energy resource procurement, as well as global challenges like green transition and digital transformation that require joint responses. As businesspeople, I hope we can think together about what we can do and take action."
