Support Discount Events to Stabilize Seafood Prices
Supply Stockpiled Popular Fish Species to the Market
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will invest 36.6 billion KRW in discount support to stabilize seafood prices. The ministry also plans to supply up to 600 tons of government stockpiles of six popular fish species, including squid and mackerel, to the market.
On the 14th, the ministry announced that it will invest 36.6 billion KRW in various discount supports, such as the Onnuri gift certificate refund event, over March and April to maintain the stable trend of seafood prices, and will promptly supply government stockpiles for items with unstable supply and demand.

The Onnuri gift certificate refund event refunds consumers up to 20,000 KRW in Onnuri gift certificates based on their purchase amount when buying domestic seafood at traditional markets. Consumers who purchase domestic seafood at participating markets can bring their receipts and ID to the refund booth within the market, where they will receive a refund after a simple identity verification.
Additionally, the ministry plans to fully commit to stabilizing livelihoods by supplying up to 600 tons of government stockpiles of six popular fish species this year, including pollock, mackerel, squid, hairtail, croaker, and dried anchovies. Starting from the 14th, these will be sold to consumers at prices up to 30% lower than market prices.
The March seafood discount event (from March 7 to 24) will expand the supported items to up to nine, offering broad discount benefits not only on popular fish species but also on spring seasonal seafood such as sea squirts and rockfish. Minister Kang Do-hyung of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries stated, "Since major seafood including squid is scheduled to be supplied sequentially after April, March is the most important time for managing seafood prices this year," and added, "We will promptly supply government stockpiles to the market over the course of one month."
