Groundbreaking for the Largest Marine Leisure Tourism Landmark on the South Coast
Featuring Skin Scuba Diving Pool, Indoor Surfing Facility, Opening in 2026
The Boseong-gun ‘Yulpo Marine Complex Center,’ set to become the largest marine leisure tourism landmark on the southern coast, broke ground on the 13th at Yulpo Solbat Beach.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Boseong-gun Governor Kim Cheol-woo, Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Young-rok, and Boseong County Council Chairman Im Yong-min attended to celebrate Boseong-gun’s growth and leap forward as the largest marine tourism hub on the southern coast.
The ‘Yulpo Marine Complex Center Construction Project’ was selected in 2019 by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ marine leisure tourism hub development contest. The construction will cover a total floor area of 9,047㎡ with four above-ground floors and is scheduled for completion in 2026.
With a total investment of 46.3 billion KRW, the ‘Yulpo Marine Complex Center’ is expected to become a landmark where visitors can enjoy marine leisure sports regardless of the season, meeting the increasing demand for marine tourism.
The first floor of the Marine Complex Center will house the country’s largest indoor surfing facility and retail spaces; the second floor will feature a multipurpose F&B (food and beverage) area; the third floor will include a diving observation deck and an underwater studio; and the fourth floor will have a skin scuba diving pool with a depth of 41.5 meters?making it the third deepest in the world (34m × 13m)?along with a diving lounge.
Additionally, various marine tourism infrastructure is available nearby, including the Yulpo Seawater Green Tea Center spa facility utilizing Boseong tea and seawater, Yulpo Auto Camping Site, Bibong Marina, and Deukryang Bay Sea Fishing Park, enabling leisure, experiences, shopping, and relaxation all in one place.
Furthermore, once the ‘Southern Coast High-Speed Railway Project’ connecting Mokpo, Boseong, and Busan, and the ‘Gyeongjeon Line Electrification Project’?the ‘KTX Ieum Project’ connecting Gwangju, Boseong, and Suncheon?are completed, visitors from anywhere in the country will be able to enjoy Boseong’s marine leisure facilities within a two-hour travel distance.
Governor Kim Cheol-woo of Boseong said, “We hope that the ‘Yulpo Marine Complex Center,’ with its pristine sea and Boseong’s unique natural environment, will become a landmark representing marine leisure tourism in South Korea.” He added, “With the completion of the ‘Beolgyo-Jangdo Ecological Trail Construction Project’ and the ‘Yeoja Bay National Marine Ecological Park Construction Project’ alongside the ‘Yulpo Marine Complex Center,’ Boseong-gun will be reborn as the largest marine tourism center on the southern coast.”
