Microsoft (MS) announced on the 13th (local time) that it will launch an AI chatbot for enhancing cybersecurity and responding to hacking, called 'Copilot for Security,' on the 1st of next month.
Unveiled in March last year, 'Copilot for Security' was created to assist cybersecurity professionals in their work. It is known to operate based on OpenAI's latest large language model (LLM), GPT-4, and MS's proprietary security-specialized AI model.
This AI chatbot summarizes security-related incidents and analyzes vulnerabilities for security experts, supporting information-sharing tasks with colleagues. It also provides access to the latest information on security threats along with 78 trillion signals collected daily through MS's threat intelligence. Additionally, it features a multilingual interface supporting 25 languages and can respond in 8 languages to user-input prompts. MS stated that it plans to integrate the chatbot into its security products while also making it available through a standalone portal.
MS revealed that it currently has 300 corporate customers. Regarding the chatbot, MS plans to charge fees based on usage rather than a monthly subscription model. A usage fee of $4 per hour is expected to be charged. Vasu Jakkal, MS Vice President of Security, explained, "We chose a usage-based pricing model instead of subscription units to lower the entry barrier for Copilot."
The reason MS is intensifying its cybersecurity development efforts is believed to be due to recent consecutive hacking threats targeting companies. MS disclosed that in January, Russian intelligence agencies accessed some executives' email accounts. Additionally, OTT service provider Roku and UnitedHealth were reported to have been targeted by hacking attacks this year.
MS CEO Satya Nadella said in the company's most recent earnings report that the recent surge in cyberattacks has "highlighted the need for organizations to move faster to protect their assets from cyber threats."
Meanwhile, MS recorded over $20 billion (approximately 26 trillion KRW) in revenue from its security division in 2022. This amount was larger than the revenue MS earned from gaming or search advertising at that time.
