Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, expressed a welcoming sentiment regarding the city education office's plan to promote the 'Gwangsan Education Support Center' (tentative name), stating that "spring is coming to Gwangsan education."
On the 13th, Gwangsan-gu announced, "The Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education recently established a basic plan and is moving forward with the establishment of the Gwangsan Education Support Center under the Gwangju Western Education Support Office, aiming for the first half of next year," adding, "It is expected to build a customized education field support system reflecting the characteristics of the Gwangsan area."
Currently, educational administration in the Gwangsan-gu area is managed by the Gwangju Western Education Support Office. This is due to the absorption and integration of the 'Jeonnam Gwangsan Education Office' into the Gwangju Western Education Support Office during the administrative district reorganization of Gwangju Directly Governed City in 1988.
Since then, with large-scale housing developments and other factors, the population and number of students in Gwangsan-gu have increased, leading to a significant rise in demand for educational administration. In particular, the number of students under the jurisdiction of the Gwangju Western Education Support Office is 1.7 times that of the Eastern Education Support Office, raising the need to restore the Gwangsan Education Support Office.
Since the 8th term of the elected government, Gwangsan-gu has operated a public-private consultative body for improving the educational environment and has actively requested the Ministry of Education and the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education to improve the quality of educational administrative services and to separate the overly consolidated education support system.
