Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 13th that it is accelerating efforts to attract overseas MICE events in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization.
From the 13th of this month until April, the city will hold fam tours targeting key travel agencies in each country in cooperation with the Korea Tourism Organization's overseas branches in Mongolia, New York, and Singapore.
In particular, travel agencies from the three countries participating in this fam tour are required to plan products within six months and present them to their customers, so the city expects to expand its overseas MICE market channels.
Accordingly, Yeosu City has organized various programs during the fam tour period, including visits to major conference facilities and tourist attractions, as well as guidance on MICE support systems, to showcase Yeosu as the optimal location for hosting MICE events.
The main schedule includes ▲ four leading travel agencies from Mongolia on March 13-14 ▲ about ten travel agencies from New York, USA on April 10-12 ▲ and about 20 companies including travel agencies and media from Singapore on April 23-24.
Notably, the visit from the Singapore branch was a result of marketing activities targeting the Singapore branch during Yeosu City's participation in ‘ITB ASIA 2023’ held in Singapore last year.
Additionally, the schedule with the New York branch is a fam tour for developing regional linkage (Incheon-Jeonju-Yeosu) MICE tourism products, co-hosted with Incheon Tourism Organization and Jeonju City. It plans to promote a product where tourists enter through Incheon Airport and visit Jeonju and Yeosu.
Shin Young-ja, Director of the Tourism Division, said, “We expect this fam tour to lead to the actual attraction of overseas MICE events,” and added, “As the Korea Tourism Organization supports Yeosu as Korea’s representative MICE city, we will carry out strategic marketing activities to leap forward as a ‘global MICE city.’”
