3,387 Secondary Hospitals Nationwide
83% Operated Exclusively by Specialists
With over 90% of residents having left medical sites, most nationwide secondary hospitals (general hospitals) that operate primarily with specialists are continuing normal medical treatment and surgeries.
According to the Korea Association of General Hospitals on the 14th, among the 3,387 secondary hospitals nationwide, 201 (17%) are resident training hospitals, while the remaining 83% are operated mainly by specialists. A representative from the General Hospitals Association explained, "Most regional general hospitals, which are secondary hospitals, can provide normal medical care regardless of the medical crisis," adding, "There is also availability of inpatient beds for intensive care units, emergency, and recovery patients."

Gangseo-gu, Seoul - Ewha Seoul Hospital has 215 specialists, including professors, working normally across 25 departments. Although it is a training hospital, there are only 4 residents. Cancer surgeries are possible. It received a first-grade rating from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service in categories such as coronary artery bypass surgery, acute stroke, pneumonia, breast cancer, and stomach cancer. Nursing grade is A.
Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul Myongji St. Mary's Hospital has 35 specialists working across 12 departments. It received a first-grade rating in acute stroke, pneumonia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease categories. Nursing grade is first grade. To respond to emergency medical situations amid the medical crisis, the hospital operates its emergency room 24 hours and has strengthened the on-duty system, adding emergency room staff and transfer personnel.
Dongnae-gu, Busan Daedong Hospital employs 64 specialists across 18 departments. It operates an emergency room and adult intensive care unit. Surgeries for gastrointestinal cancers are possible. It received first-grade ratings in acute stroke, pneumonia, hemodialysis, and acute lower respiratory infection antibiotic prescription rate categories. Nursing grade is first grade.
Gyeyang-gu, Incheon - Incheon Sejong Hospital has 89 specialists working across 21 departments. It operates an emergency room and adult intensive care unit and is a facility performing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Cancer surgeries are possible. It received first-grade ratings in coronary artery bypass surgery, acute stroke, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and hemodialysis categories. Nursing grade is S.
Dong-gu, Daegu Daegu Fatima Hospital has 135 specialists working across 23 departments. It operates an emergency room, adult intensive care unit, and neonatal intensive care unit, and is also a specialized inpatient hospice institution. Cancer surgeries are possible. It received first-grade ratings in coronary artery bypass surgery, acute stroke, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer, stomach cancer, and breast cancer categories.
