Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is conducting a medical expense support project for pets in vulnerable care households to prevent animal abandonment and improve welfare.
The support targets vulnerable pet care households with dogs or cats residing in Seongnam City whose income is below 120% of the median income.
Priority support is given to low-income groups such as basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, as well as persons with severe disabilities, single-parent families, and multicultural families.
Seongnam City provides up to 200,000 KRW per pet. The co-payment rate is 20%.
The scope of support includes ▲ medical support such as vaccination fees, neutering surgery fees, basic check-up and treatment fees ▲ pet care consignment fees (up to 10 days) ▲ funeral support (funeral and cremation fees), etc.
Vulnerable households wishing to apply can visit the Regional Economy Division on the 7th floor of City Hall by the 22nd of this month to apply.
A Seongnam City official stated, "The economic burden on vulnerable households raising pets is gradually increasing," and added, "We will carry out the support project so that medical expense support can be provided first to households that truly need help."
