On the 11th, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, held a safety measures meeting for spring forest fire and thawing season preparedness, chaired by County Governor Nam Han-kwon, with the participation of the deputy governor, department heads, heads of affiliated institutions, and town and township chiefs.
This meeting, held immediately after the executive meeting, was organized to discuss key initiatives during the spring forest fire caution period (February 1?15) and the thawing season safety inspection period (February 19?April 3), and it was decided to implement customized safety measures by department.
Unlike in the past, natural environmental changes such as reduced snowfall and rapid temperature rises have increased safety risk factors. In particular, with the early mountain hiking and golosoe (sap) collection after thawing, and the increase in tourists and residents visiting the mountains during the spring wild vegetable season, safety measures including personal safety promotion and preemptive safety risk inspections were prepared. Additionally, safety measures were discussed for everyday elements such as collapses, falling rocks, road potholes, and weakened ground at construction sites and residential fences caused by the melting of the spring ground surface.
County Governor Nam Han-kwon stated, “Fatal accidents during wild vegetable collection and fire accidents caused by electrical leakage often occur from minor points that we inadvertently overlook due to safety negligence. Therefore, personal safety must be promoted more than excessively, and departments should thoroughly examine factors that could lead to major accidents such as falling rocks, soil erosion, and road subsidence as thawing begins, to prevent precious human lives and property damage.”
