Gwangju Metropolitan City will hold the ‘Tree Sharing Event with Companion Plants’ from the 25th to the 30th of this month.

Gwangju City "Grow Companion Plants like Dongbaek Tree and Hwangchil Tree..."

This event was prepared in response to the increasing number of people wanting to have companion plants and the growing trend of households planting and caring for plants.

Companion plants refer to plants that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can grow while emotionally connecting and interacting with them. This year, three types of companion plants?Camellia, Dendropanax, and Crassula?will be distributed, with 2,000 citizens receiving one plant of each type, totaling three plants per person.

To prevent safety accidents caused by large crowds gathering at the event venue, online reservations will be accepted in advance from the 20th to the 22nd via the Gwangju city website’s direct reservation system. Reservations will close once the prepared quantity is exhausted.

Those who make reservations will be notified via AlimTalk, and they can pick up their reserved companion plants at the Honam Landscaping Tree Distribution Center, located at 322 Seochangduk-gil, Seo-gu, from the 25th to the 30th. However, if the last digit of the registration number is odd, the exchange can be made on odd-numbered days; if even, on even-numbered days. On the 29th and 30th, plants can be collected regardless of the registration number.

Additionally, to ensure safety at the event site, the Gwangju-Jeonnam Western Branch of the Korea Landscaping Tree Association will support tree distribution and maintain order.

Jung Gang-wook, Director of the Green Policy Division, said, “The companion plants being distributed this time are small in size, making them suitable for indoor cultivation,” and added, “We hope the culture of companion plants, which absorb indoor fine dust and help provide emotional stability and relieve depression, will take root.”
