Ulsan City, Full Effort for Stable Supply through Facility Improvement
Last Year's Water Loss Rate 89.6%, Exceeding Target
Ulsan City has launched a project to increase the water service rate in order to supply tap water stably.
The water service rate is the ratio of the amount of tap water supplied to citizens and charged as fees to the total production volume of tap water.
By increasing the water service rate, water wasted during the tap water supply process can be reduced, which helps improve the efficiency of waterworks management and suppresses the increase in water rates.
Ulsan City plans to achieve a water service rate of 90.1% this year by investing a total project cost of 13.3 billion KRW.
First, various projects to increase the water service rate will be promoted, including replacing aging pipelines and old water meters with high leakage potential, repairing pipelines through leak detection, confirming block isolation, and managing appropriate water pressure.
In addition, Ulsan City will continue to promote waterworks facility improvement projects to prevent various disasters and accidents caused by the aging of water supply facilities in advance.
Double tracking of transmission pipelines for 8.2 km will also be promoted, including sections from Hoeya Water Purification Plant to Duwang Intersection, from Munsu High School to Okhyeon Jugong Apartment, and from Cheonsang Water Purification Plant to Cheonsangcheon.
Along with this, expansion projects for Seonam and Cheonsang water reservoirs will be promoted to establish infrastructure for stable tap water supply.
Kim Sang-yuk, head of the Ulsan City Waterworks Business Headquarters, said, “We will do our best to stably supply high-quality tap water to Ulsan citizens by promoting this year’s water service rate improvement project, double tracking of transmission pipelines, and reservoir expansion projects.”
Last year, Ulsan City’s water service rate recorded 89.6%, an increase of 1.4 percentage points from 88.2% in 2022, exceeding the target water service rate of 89.2%.
