Gyeonggi-do Expands Support for Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Teams

Gyeonggi-do Expands Support for Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Teams Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province is increasing support funds for the ‘Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps.’ The Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps is a community-based disaster prevention organization formed under the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act, composed of residents who are well acquainted with their local areas. Currently, about 9,900 members are active across 31 cities and counties.

On the 12th, Gyeonggi Province announced that in addition to the 465 million KRW support fund provided earlier this year to strengthen the capabilities of the Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps in 31 cities and counties, an additional 55 million KRW will be allocated.

The additional support targets 11 cities and counties, including five regions such as Hwaseong and Namyangju, which received excellent evaluations in last year’s autonomous disaster prevention corps activation assessment, and six regions such as Dongducheon and Pocheon, where financial resources are limited, making active support for private organizations difficult.

Choo Dae-woon, Director of the Natural Disaster Division of Gyeonggi Province, emphasized, "To actively respond to increasingly severe natural disasters, the activities of the Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps, composed of residents who know their hometowns well, are very important," adding, "We will actively support the activities of the Local Autonomous Disaster Prevention Corps to protect themselves and their neighbors from disasters."
