Real-time Communication with Residents via Text Messages for Administrative Tasks Expanded to 30 Departments and 133 Administrative Tasks This Year
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will expand the operation of the 'two-way text message service,' which allows real-time communication with residents, from the existing 50 tasks to 183 tasks starting this year.
The two-way text message service adds a resident reply function to the existing text transmission system used by administrative agencies. Previously, residents could only receive messages and had to call separately to reply or inquire, causing inconvenience.
Since introducing and operating the two-way text message service in 2019, the district has continuously expanded the target tasks due to high resident satisfaction. The newly added tasks this year include 133 tasks from 30 departments such as integrated welfare counseling, community center program operations, and job counseling.
The two-way text message service can be used in various forms, such as consultation during civil complaint processing and replying to attendance at resident briefings. For example, when a responsible official sends a text message to a resident with the date and time for career and academic counseling, the resident can check and respond or adjust their opinion via text message.
Residents can communicate with the responsible officials about administrative tasks through text messages, and the district can use this as a communication channel with residents.
The district plans to continue discovering administrative tasks that require the two-way text message service and listen to residents' opinions and communicate in various fields.
The district won the 'Encouragement Award' in the excellent civil service cases hosted by Seoul City in December 2019 for the two-way text message service.
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "The two-way text message service is a representative administrative innovation case centered on civil complaints that has improved the overall quality of Geumcheon-gu's civil service through a small change in thinking," adding, "We will actively introduce and utilize various systems to provide high-quality administrative services that residents can feel in the future."
