On the 10th, the fishing club 'Badarogan Bass' posted five photos on their YouTube community along with the message, "Our subscriber 'Hakyeoni' has made a life-changing catch." The photos show a man holding a massive flatfish, roughly the length from his shoulders to his knees, with both hands. Badarogan Bass confirmed that the flatfish measured 1.18m in length and weighed 20kg. Typically, a wild flatfish caught for sashimi weighs about 2 to 5kg, so this catch is up to ten times larger. Additionally, the flatfish is about the same length as the average height of a first grader in South Korea, which is 1.2m.
Subscribers who saw this expressed amazement and congratulations, saying things like, "This is truly a 'life fish.' It's just a dream and so enviable," "I bet this record won't be broken anytime soon," "I can't believe something like that was caught by fishing," and "Amazing."
The lucky angler who caught this flatfish is Song Hak-hyeon, who is active under the nickname 'Hakyeoni' in the Badarogan Bass fishing club. News 1 reported that Song caught the flatfish shortly after starting to fish near Jumunjin Port in Gangneung at around 9:30 a.m. on the 9th. That day, Song went fishing as a hobby with club members and was fortunate enough to catch the giant flatfish. He shared the happy news in the club's group chat, and other nearby anglers gathered to see the flatfish and took photos.
Choi Jae-young, the operator of Badarogan Bass, said, "Although I have fished a lot along the East Coast, this is the first time I have encountered such a large flatfish," adding, "I believe this year will be a lucky year for the club, and I also congratulate the member who caught it."
