Australian Authorities Troubled by Kangaroos Over Twice the Size of Humans
A commotion broke out at a golf course in Victoria, Australia, causing all games to be halted. A sudden appearance of a mob of kangaroos rampaging around the golf course was the cause. On the 8th (local time), Steven Roche, a resident of Australia, posted a video on social media. The video, filmed at Heritage Golf Course in Victoria, Australia, shows a mob of kangaroos estimated to number in the hundreds crossing the golf course horizontally. Roche could not help but marvel, calling it a "real riot."
He said, "There are quite a few kangaroos across the two courses at Heritage Golf and Country Club," but added, "(Seeing kangaroos behave like this) is something I've never seen before."
In the end, the golf course reportedly could not properly continue the game until the entire mob of kangaroos had passed. Another golf course visitor who filmed the scene commented, "I thought the kangaroos' crossing would last forever."
This was not the first time a "kangaroo riot" had occurred at this golf course. In fact, the golf course had even planned to remove kangaroos living nearby to prevent frequent intrusions.

This plan was scrapped due to strong public opposition, and instead, the golf course erected fences near the kangaroo habitats to block their intrusion. However, as seen in the video, kangaroos occasionally jump over the fences and cross the golf course.
In Australia, kangaroos invading human residential areas is a common occurrence. According to a 2016 report by Australian authorities, about 44 million kangaroos inhabit Australia. This is roughly twice the population of 24 million people in Australia in the same year. In fact, kangaroos are effectively the "dominant species" of the Australian continent.
Due to the difficulty in controlling their population, Australian authorities are struggling with kangaroo management. Especially as kangaroos increasingly invade farms and damage crops, limited hunting has been permitted since 2019.
