Democratic United Party 'Anti-American' Activist Ranked No.1 on Proportional Representation List
"If We Become the Majority, I Want to Ask Whether Anti-Americanism Will Be Adopted as Party Policy"
"Will Prioritize One-Shot Removal of Semiconductor Regulations as Top Policy Task"
Han Dong-hoon, the Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, has once again brought up the issue of political color. He criticized the Democratic United Party, a satellite party of the opposition coalition including the Democratic Party, the Progressive Party, and the New Progressive Alliance, for selecting Jeon Ji-ye, an operating committee member of the Financial Justice Solidarity, as the number one proportional representation candidate, asking, "Is anti-Americanism their pledge?"
On the 11th, at an emergency response meeting held at the central party office in Yeouido, Chairman Han said, "The number one proportional representation candidate of the Democratic Party's satellite party is a former representative of an organization that opposed the ROK-U.S. joint military exercises and called for the withdrawal of U.S. troops stationed in Korea," adding, "I want to ask whether the Democratic Party's pledge for this general election is opposition to the ROK-U.S. joint military exercises and withdrawal of U.S. troops, or anti-Americanism." Before the meeting, on his way to work, he also told reporters, "The number one proportional representation candidate is symbolic and represents the determination to definitely send that person to the National Assembly," and asked, "If the Democratic Party becomes the majority party, will they adopt anti-Americanism and opposition to the ROK-U.S. joint military exercises as party policies?"
Jeon Ji-ye is a former student council president at Seoul National University of Science and Technology and has also been active as an activist for 'Gyeorehana.' Gyeorehana is known as an anti-American organization that has protested against the ROK-U.S. joint military exercises.
Chairman Han also expressed his commitment to political reform, livelihood politics, and semiconductor pledges.
He said, "We will stop the reckless actions of the Democratic Party, which is a coalition of privileged activist groups, corrupt forces, and pro-North Korean factions that disgrace the country for their own survival, and open a new chapter of political reform and livelihood politics for fellow citizens," adding, "The People Power Party has promised political reform and is already implementing legislative measures." He continued, "We will definitely overcome the Democratic Party led by Lee, who calls political reform and giving up privileges populism," and emphasized, "We will firmly keep various effective pledges to reduce disparities and revitalize livelihoods."
Chairman Han said, "We will practice sincere politics, responsive politics, and close-contact politics that can improve the lives of fellow citizens with delicate and thorough care," and asked, "Please choose us so that the People Power Party can take responsibility for the future of the people."
He also argued, "According to the Bank of Korea recently, last year our country's per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rebounded by 2.6%, which is a good sign, but there is still a long way to go," adding, "Per capita GDP has remained in the $30,000 range (about 39.5 million KRW) for seven years, and to stabilize it in the $40,000 range (about 53 million KRW), deregulation of semiconductors is absolutely necessary." He further emphasized, "In fact, the semiconductor site in Yongin was selected five years ago but has yet to break ground," and pointed out, "It is said to be tied up in various regulations, so we will prioritize the one-shot deregulation of semiconductors as a top policy task."
