Discounts and Special Sales to Celebrate Launch from the 11th to 14th
Coupang is expanding its 'Rocket Direct Purchase' service to Japan. Domestic consumers using Coupang will now be able to directly purchase Japanese products from overseas.
On the 11th, Coupang announced that it will launch the Rocket Direct Purchase service in Japan, following the United States, China, and Hong Kong. Rocket Direct Purchase is an overseas direct purchase service provided by Coupang, which started in the U.S. in 2017 and expanded to China in 2021 and Hong Kong in 2022.
According to the National Statistical Portal (KOSIS), the Japanese direct purchase market grew by 11% last year compared to the previous year. Major product categories include fashion, food, and home goods. Among these, food products grew by approximately 45% year-over-year. Although demand for Japanese direct purchases is increasing among domestic consumers, Coupang explained that there have not been many Japanese direct purchase services available domestically.
Through this Rocket Direct Purchase service, Coupang has prepared a variety of products including ▲food and snacks (Nissin, Meiji, LeTAO, AGF, etc.) ▲household and beauty products (Senka, Biore, Pino, Tsubaki, Japan P&G, etc.) ▲home and kitchen brands (Ishida, Joseph Joseph, etc.) ▲books and stationery products (Zebra, Mitsubishi, Pentel, etc.).
To celebrate the launch, a promotion will be held. From the 11th to the 14th of this month, customers purchasing 45,000 KRW or more on all Japanese direct purchase products and some U.S. and Chinese products will receive a 3,000 KRW discount coupon. Additionally, selected Japanese direct purchase products will be offered at special prices for one day only, with limited quantities per category. Furthermore, best-selling direct purchase products from the U.S., China, and Hong Kong, mainly health foods, electronics, digital, and beauty products, will be sold at discounted prices.
Free shipping benefits for Wow members will also apply to Japanese direct purchases. Wow members can receive free shipping even if they order just one Japanese Rocket Direct Purchase product.
A Coupang representative said, "We have expanded the Rocket Direct Purchase service area to accommodate consumers who have had difficulties purchasing Japanese products directly. We will continue to strive to introduce a variety of global products based on Coupang’s competitive overseas direct purchase service, including reasonable prices and fast delivery."
