The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Establish Criteria for Designating 'Gugak Day'

From the 18th to the 23rd, Meetings in Five Regions
Seeking Development Directions Ahead of the Enforcement of the 'Gugak Promotion Act'

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold on-site meetings from the 18th to the 23rd across five regions nationwide to prepare for the implementation of the 'Gugak Promotion Act.' The meetings will gather opinions on the enforcement ordinance draft, including the designation of the statutory memorial day 'Gugak Day,' and explore directions for the development of traditional arts. The 'Gugak Promotion Act,' enacted last year, is scheduled to be enforced by the end of July.

Kang Jeong-won, Director of the Culture and Arts Policy Office at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "The succession and development of traditional culture and the promotion of national culture are state duties stipulated in the Constitution," adding, "With the enactment of the 'Gugak Promotion Act,' which marks a significant milestone for the development of traditional arts, we will thoroughly implement policies for the advancement and promotion of traditional arts."


On the 14th, the Ministry met with experts in the gugak field to listen to various opinions and will hold meetings in sequence at the National Gugak Center in Seoul/Gyeonggi area (18th), Gangneung City Hall in the Gangwon area (19th), the National Folk Gugak Center in the Honam area (20th), the National Sejong Library in the Chungcheong area (21st), and the National Busan Gugak Center in the Yeongnam area (22nd). The meetings will explain the main contents of the 'Gugak Promotion Act' and conduct presentations and discussions on the criteria for designating 'Gugak Day.' Anyone interested may attend.
