Geumcheon-gu Provides Up to 400,000 KRW in Veterinary Medical Expenses Support for Vulnerable Groups' Pets

Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) announced that it will implement the "Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital Project" to alleviate the economic burden of vulnerable groups raising companion animals.

The "Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital Project" supports medical expenses for companion animals such as dogs or cats for basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families by providing health checkups, vaccinations, and more.

The project will be operated at eight designated animal hospitals located in Geumcheon-gu until December 8 (or until the budget is exhausted). The list of animal hospitals can be found on the district office website.

Eligible applicants are vulnerable groups registered as residents in Geumcheon-gu, and support is available for up to two animals per household once a year. At this time, the companion animals must be registered under the applicant's (vulnerable group) name. While only dogs were required to be registered last year, this year both dogs and cats must be registered to receive support.

The support items include essential treatments (basic health checkups, mandatory vaccinations, heartworm prevention medication) and optional treatments (treatment of diseases found during basic checkups, neutering surgery). Simple prescriptions such as grooming or nutritional supplements are excluded.

Animal owners are responsible for 5,000 KRW per consultation for essential treatments (up to 10,000 KRW), and for optional treatments, they only pay the amount exceeding 200,000 KRW. By paying a maximum of 10,000 KRW in owner co-payments, they can receive up to 400,000 KRW worth of companion animal medical expenses support.

Eligible applicants should visit a designated animal hospital with proof of vulnerable status issued within the last three months (such as a recipient certificate, near-poverty group confirmation, single-parent family confirmation, etc.), an ID card, and the animal registration certificate, fill out an application form, and receive treatment.

Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, stated, "Our Neighborhood Animal Hospital is not only about animal welfare but also a welfare project that reduces the economic burden on vulnerable residents. This year, we expanded the project budget so that more people can benefit compared to last year, and we hope for your interest and applications."
