Jindo-gun 'Mystical Sea Road Festival' Opens on the 11th

Famous Singers Join the Eve Festival... Song Ga-in to Appear at Opening Ceremony

54 Diverse Events and Nationwide Singing Contest Recording Broadcast Held Together

Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, the only folk culture and arts special zone in South Korea, will hold the 44th Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival from the 11th to the 13th.

According to the county on the 8th, the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival, designated as an honorary cultural tourism festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, offers a mysterious sea road experience where the sea parts between Hoedong-ri in Gogeun-myeon and Modo-ri in Uisin-myeon, spanning 2 km in length and 30 to 40 meters in width, while widely promoting Jindo’s excellent culture and arts.

Under the theme “The Beginning of Spring, at the Mysterious Sea,” this festival is hosted by Jindo-gun and organized by the Jindo-gun Festival Promotion Committee, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Jeollanam-do, and the Korea Tourism Organization.

The county recently held a festival progress briefing to provide clean and pleasant memories for residents and tourists visiting the festival site, checking matters related to festival safety management and discussing overall promotion issues such as traffic control and safety.

In addition, to ensure a clean and pleasant festival, marine debris abandoned in the Hoedong-ri area where the festival is held was collected, and fishing gear was organized.

The three-day festival, which includes a celebratory performance held the day before the festival, features 54 different exhibitions, performances, and experience events. On the second day, a recording of the nationwide singing contest will be held, attracting not only Jindo residents but also many tourists.

Starting with a celebratory performance on the 10th at Cheolma Park in Jindo-eup featuring famous singers such as Jo Hang-jo, Kang Jin, and Woo Yeon-i, the opening ceremony on the 11th will begin with Hwakwamu (flower crown dance) and Jindo Bukchum (Jindo drum dance). At 3 p.m., national singer Song Ga-in, who hails from Jindo, will make a special appearance to energize the festival venue.

Various performances such as Jindo’s traditional Jindo Ssikimgut (ritual cleansing), Dasiraegi, Namdo Deulnorae (field songs of the southern provinces), and Jindo Buknori (drum play) will be held, along with cultural experience events including the Jindo Culture Experience Yard, making wish lanterns with the Mulberry Grandma, and pottery making experiences. Events such as talent shows and an Ulgeum Makgeolli drinking contest, which foreigners can participate in, will also take place.

Additionally, the “Gyeonwoo and Jiknyeo” Sea Road Meeting Love Contest, held on the first day of the festival with the participation of 44 couples of tourists, will offer unique enjoyment by providing love confessions between lovers and friends, bouquets, and tourism souvenirs. The top five couples will be selected and awarded a gold ring weighing 1 don.

In particular, visitors can also enjoy the Sea Road Torchlight Parade and the three-day Sea Road multimedia laser show, as well as media art experiences that simulate the Sea Road.

Side events such as the Mulberry Grandma makeup performance and the “Save the Sea” Sutdam Running (plogging) campaign for environmental protection will also be held.

County Governor Kim Hee-su said, “All staff are working hard for the safe and successful hosting of the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival,” adding, “I hope that families, friends, and couples visiting the miraculous sea, the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road Festival site, will have unforgettable and joyful memories.”

Meanwhile, the predicted times for the opening of the Jindo Mysterious Sea Road are △ May 11 at 5:50 a.m. and 6:20 p.m., △ May 12 at 6:40 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and △ May 13 at 7:20 a.m. and 7:40 p.m.
