Korea-Denmark, 12th Green Growth Alliance Meeting... Agree to Expand Cooperation on Offshore Wind Power and Hydrogen

Signing of MOU on Cooperation in Clean Energy and New Energy Industries

South Korea and Denmark have agreed to further strengthen cooperation in clean energy, including offshore wind power and hydrogen.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Minister An Deok-geun held the 12th Korea-Denmark Green Growth Alliance (GGA) meeting on the afternoon of the 8th in Seoul with Lars Aagaard, Denmark's Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities, to discuss cooperation measures between the two countries in clean energy such as offshore wind power and hydrogen.

Since signing the GGA in 2011, the two countries have held annual ministerial-level meetings to develop green cooperation in various fields ranging from eco-friendly industries to shipping and finance. This meeting mainly focused on cooperation in eco-friendly energy.

At the meeting, Minister An introduced the Korean government's CFE (Carbon-Free Energy) initiative, which aims to effectively promote carbon neutrality by utilizing various carbon-free energy sources, and emphasized the hope for close cooperation with Denmark, a leading country in carbon neutrality implementation, in spreading CFE.

In the offshore wind sector, the two countries agreed to expand mutually complementary cooperation by combining Denmark's development experience and know-how with Korea's excellent manufacturing base. Since both countries are actively promoting the expansion of offshore wind power as a key means of carbon neutrality, they also agreed to share related experiences such as policy responses to community acceptance issues.

In the hydrogen sector, the two countries agreed to expand industrial and technological cooperation between their companies and to collaborate in establishing a stable and economical global hydrogen supply chain. Denmark is gaining attention as a future green hydrogen producer based on advanced wind technology, and cooperation between the two countries in this field is highly anticipated.

On this day, the two countries signed an expanded and reorganized version of the 'Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in Renewable Energy and New Energy Industries' signed in 2018, renaming it the 'MOU on Cooperation in Clean Energy and New Energy Industries' to promote carbon neutrality and new industry cooperation. Through this, they agreed to further strengthen cooperation in clean energy fields between the two countries by expanding collaboration in hydrogen, energy efficiency, and other areas.
