Pohang Mayor Lee Gang-deok Visits 'InterBattery 2024' Site... Strengthening Secondary Battery Network On the 6th, Lee Kang-deok, Mayor of Pohang, is visiting and inspecting the site at 'InterBattery 2024'.

During ‘InterBattery 2024,’ Pohang is sharing the vision of its secondary battery specialized complex through the operation of the industrial pavilion and is creating a promotional platform to attract corporate investment and establish a battery cooperation system.

In addition, to respond to raw material export regulations and stabilize the supply chain, the city is actively promoting the necessity of designating a global innovation zone where demonstration, certification, and approval through battery recycling and reuse are possible.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok, who visited the ‘InterBattery 2024’ site on the 6th, visited booths of major domestic battery companies to review the latest secondary battery technologies, products, and corporate trends.

The mayor visited the POSCO Holdings booth, received an explanation about the secondary battery value chain, inquired about response measures to changes in the international situation, and discussed joint response plans between companies and local governments.

He then visited the Ecopro promotional booth to examine the Closed Loop System (CLS) V2, which reduces manufacturing costs by about 30%, listened to difficulties related to corporate investment and timely production, and discussed support measures to actively resolve these issues.

Finally, he visited the Gyeongbuk Pohang Secondary Battery Specialized Complex industrial pavilion, listened to current issues for the designation of the global innovation zone and the status of corporate investment, and encouraged the staff of related organizations participating in the exhibition.

Pohang is establishing itself as the largest domestic production base for cathode materials centered on leading companies such as Ecopro and POSCO Future M, with corporate investments underway aiming to produce 1 million tons of cathode materials by 2030. Leading companies in the specialized complex, Ecopro BM and POSCO Future M, participated in this exhibition to showcase technologies and new products related to cathode materials under development.

Mayor Lee Kang-deok said, “We will do our best to promote the strengths of Pohang’s secondary battery industry and build active networks between domestic and international companies to advance as a leading city in secondary batteries.” He added, “Once the Pohang International Exhibition & Convention Center is built, Pohang City will strive to host a grand secondary battery global expo.”

‘InterBattery 2024,’ held from the 6th to the 8th at COEX in Seoul, is the largest specialized secondary battery industry exhibition in Korea, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Battery Industry Association, COEX, and KOTRA.

Since its inception in 2013, InterBattery has established itself as a business platform with participation from 650 companies including global battery giants and over 70,000 buyers.
