Gangdong-gu, 11.8 Billion Investment to Create Prestigious School Districts for Kindergarten, Elementary, Middle, and High Schools Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong District

Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Su-hee) announced that it will provide approximately 11.8 billion KRW in educational expense subsidies this year to 93 kindergartens, elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the district to create a "Diligent Education Gangdong, Smart Educational Environment."

Last month, the district passed the detailed support projects and amounts for each school through the review of the "Gangdong-gu Educational Expense Subsidy Deliberation Committee," and plans to allocate the project funds to schools and kindergartens by March to support the implementation of various projects for students.

The detailed support projects include ▲ 150 million KRW for specialized after-school care programs and English experience classes ▲ 1.1 billion KRW for educational programs, environment improvement, gifted education center operation, and learning assistant support for special school students, and 200 million KRW for kindergarten support ▲ 500 million KRW for fostering prestigious high schools ▲ about 130 million KRW for counseling volunteer support ▲ 32 million KRW for foreign language program participation support ▲ about 190 million KRW for youth challenge projects and club support ▲ 40 million KRW for youth sports activities support ▲ about 8.84 billion KRW for eco-friendly free meal support ▲ about 650 million KRW for entrance preparation funds for new elementary, middle, and high school students.

In particular, this year, the subsidy programs were diversified by actively reflecting the demands from the school field. First, programs for staff were added to restore teacher authority and strengthen teacher capabilities.

Also, for the after-school care program, while lowering the upper limit of specialized programs, a special visiting program to schools was newly established to cover the vacation period when program gaps occur.

Additionally, in fostering prestigious high schools, in preparation for the full introduction of the high school credit system in 2025, support areas for high schools were expanded so that schools can open and operate various elective courses.

Lee Su-hee, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "We will carefully examine the school field and listen to voices on site to create a better environment for children's education," adding, "Especially, we will meticulously manage the newly launched programs this year to ensure they operate well."
