Fiancee Before Marriage Scolds Short Husband
"I Don't Want to Have a Short Child... Will Use Sperm Bank"
A story has sparked controversy after a woman about to get married claimed she wanted to use a sperm bank because she did not want to have a child resembling her short-statured fianc?.
On the 5th, a post titled "My girlfriend wants to use a sperm bank because of my height" was uploaded to an online community, drawing attention. The author, Mr. A, who introduced himself as a groom-to-be, said, "My girlfriend likes children and believes that a family must have children," adding, "She wanted to marry me and start a family."
However, while discussing children before the wedding, the girlfriend reportedly told Mr. A, "I don't want to raise (my child) as a short child," refusing to conceive using Mr. A's sperm. Mr. A's height was 161 cm.
Mr. A said, "My girlfriend said she knows how terrible it is to live with a short stature," adding, "She confided that she wanted to plan for children by using a sperm bank or adoption in the future." He continued, "I have been very stressed about my short height. My girlfriend is 162 cm, taller than me," and "She said, 'No matter how lucky we are, the child will probably be short. I don't want to leave the fate of a beloved child to such small luck.'" He expressed, "I was deeply shocked by her words, but since they were true, I couldn't argue. I can't even sleep."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "Even so, saying you want to use a sperm bank when you have a husband seems to cross a line," "They are going to be a married couple, yet she says such things," "It must be very hurtful to the fianc?," and "Even if the child is born, it wouldn't feel like my own, so I don't think I'd bond with them."
On the other hand, some netizens expressed understanding, saying, "I understand the girlfriend's position. Living with a short stature is unfortunate," "My height is in the late 150s cm, and I have lived a very difficult life. It would be unfair to the child," and "If the girlfriend's decision is firm, considering adoption might be a good option."

Meanwhile, a sperm bank is an institution or company that collects and cryopreserves donor sperm for use in assisted reproductive technologies such as artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization when needed. Medically, pregnancies achieved using donor sperm are no different from those achieved using a partner's sperm or through natural conception.
Almost all countries operate sperm banks for public purposes to assist infertile or subfertile couples, and South Korea also has a public sperm bank established in 1997 at Pusan National University Hospital. However, in South Korea, due to civil law issues where sperm donors can be considered legal fathers, sperm banks are known not to disclose donor identities. Currently, there is a growing call for the institutional commercialization of sperm banks as a solution to low birth rates, aging population, and infertility problems.
