Eunpyeong-gu Conducts Spring Cleaning Across the District on the 6th... Eunpyeong-gu Mayor Kim Mi-kyung Cleans Streets with Eco-friendly Electric Sweeper

Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is conducting a joint spring cleaning campaign called ‘Eunpyeong-gu Joint Environmental Maintenance Spring Cleaning’ involving public officials, public institutions, and related organizations to clean the accumulated grime from the winter season.

The ‘Eunpyeong-gu Joint Environmental Maintenance Spring Cleaning’ will take place across the entire district starting at 9 a.m. on the 6th. Eunpyeong-gu public officials will take the lead in cleaning public facilities such as main roads with heavy foot traffic, subway station areas, parks, and streams.

Each of the 16 neighborhoods will select their own cleaning sections to collect garbage accumulated in vulnerable residential areas and focus on tidying up school routes around elementary, middle, and high schools as the new semester begins.

In particular, for the maintenance of ‘Bulgwangcheon Stream,’ about 100 people including the mayor and departments related to flood control, parks, cleaning, and environment will unite to clean the streambed, collect surrounding trash, and maintain road facilities.

Additionally, resource circulation and carbon neutrality environmental campaigns such as the ‘One Day, One Household Reduces 100g of Waste and Reduces Disposable Products’ campaign will be conducted simultaneously to encourage residents’ participation and raise environmental awareness.

Nowon-gu Hosts Large-scale Cleanup with Over 2,000 Residents Participating

Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will operate the ‘Spring Cleaning Day’ with the slogan ‘Clean Our Neighborhood, the Face of Nowon!’ involving over 2,000 participants.

With early spring flower news arriving due to climate change, the district plans to conduct the ‘Spring Cleaning with Residents’ starting in March to welcome visitors to local mountains and healing spots and to support residents’ comfortable daily lives.

On March 14, designated as Spring Cleaning Day, the ‘Sseudam Movement’ will be promoted to establish a culture of voluntary cleaning among residents. The Sseudam Movement, familiar as ‘plogging,’ is a campaign where participants jog while picking up trash to protect both health and the environment. The district plans to promote the Sseudam Movement year-round to foster a shared culture of cleanliness and encourage residents to participate voluntarily.

Pre-registered families and clubs can participate, and cleaning tools and garbage bags needed for the activities will be provided by the community centers. Residents wishing to participate can apply by visiting their local community center or the Resource Circulation Division or by phone.

Oh Eon-seok, Dobong-gu Mayor, Conducts Safety Inspections During Thawing Season

“To create a safe Dobong-gu, I will personally be on the ground.”

On the 29th of last month, Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, visited safety-vulnerable facilities and areas prone to landslides during the thawing season. Along with related department staff and the voluntary disaster prevention group, this inspection was conducted to check construction sites and prevent potential safety accidents.

On that day, Mayor Oh visited the Dobong 2 redevelopment apartment construction site and the mountain disaster prevention project area (Dobong-dong 288-3) to directly check the establishment and implementation of safety management plans, ground subsidence around construction sites, cracks, and impacts on adjacent buildings.

Mayor Oh urged staff, “Please do your best to protect residents’ lives and property from disasters through continuous inspections of construction site retaining wall deformations, prevention of soil outflow, slope trimming, and hazardous tree maintenance in landslide-prone areas. Also, continue monitoring after the thawing season to manage additional risk factors.”

Currently, Dobong-gu is conducting a comprehensive inspection of 110 construction sites and disaster-vulnerable facilities during the thawing season and is carrying out landslide prevention construction with the goal of completing all work before the rainy season.

Seongdong-gu Conducts Safety Inspections During Thawing Season

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is conducting safety inspections of 188 facilities including construction sites, steep slopes, retaining walls and stone walls, and aging buildings from February 26 to March 22 during the thawing season.

The thawing season (February to April) is a period when the ground, previously frozen, melts due to warming weather, increasing the risk of facility collapse, toppling, and falling rocks. Especially with temperatures expected to rise sharply in March, accident prevention due to rapid temperature changes is necessary.

Accordingly, Seongdong-gu is taking thorough inspections and management measures to prevent accidents and eliminate risk factors during the thawing season.

Main inspection items include ground subsidence and crack occurrence at excavation sites, structural deformation of retaining walls and stone walls, and collapse of cut and fill sections on steep slopes.

In particular, this inspection expands the scope to include safety inspections of vulnerable thawing season facilities such as stone walls in apartment complexes and slopes in parks. Issues that can be immediately corrected will be addressed on-site, and other risk factors will be promptly repaired and reinforced.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, “Recently, new disaster risks have increased due to heavy rains accompanying the thawing season. We will thoroughly inspect vulnerable facilities during the thawing season to protect residents’ safety without gaps.”

Gangbuk-gu Implements Comprehensive Safety Measures for Thawing Season

Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) is implementing the ‘2024 Thawing Season Comprehensive Measures’ by the end of March, focusing on six major areas including public facilities, housing and construction, gas and flood control facilities, to ensure residents’ safety during the spring thawing season.

The district is promoting the ‘2024 Thawing Season Comprehensive Measures’ to prevent safety accidents such as road facility damage, gas leaks, and rockfall accidents caused by retaining wall collapses due to rising spring temperatures.

This comprehensive plan covers six areas: ▲facilities ▲housing and construction ▲gas ▲flood control and flood-prone facilities ▲cleaning ▲forest fire prevention.

First, inspections will be conducted on public facilities including the district office, 13 community centers and autonomous halls, comprehensive social welfare centers, parks and green spaces, and road facilities. Key inspection items include damage and cracks in building structures, gas and boiler safety, and damage to various facilities.

Multi-use facilities frequently visited by many people such as public and neighborhood sports facilities, traditional markets, alley shopping districts, daycare centers, welfare facilities for the disabled, and senior centers will also be inspected. Facility managers will conduct initial safety checks using inspection sheets, followed by on-site inspections by responsible officials or joint inspections by facility managers and officials, depending on the facility’s condition.

Additionally, 98 apartment complexes with 20 or more households and steep slopes will be inspected. For multi-family housing rated C or below in safety diagnosis and steep slopes, joint safety inspections will be conducted by professional architects and responsible officials. Inspection results for second- and third-class facilities will be entered into the Facility Management System (FMS), and steep slopes into the Disaster Management Portal (NDMS).

Special inspections will also be conducted on private construction sites with high risks of ground subsidence and collapse. External experts from the Seoul City Construction Safety Advisory Group and responsible officials will jointly inspect these sites for thawing season preparedness, notify contractors of inspection results to ensure repairs and reinforcements, and take administrative actions such as work suspension or facility use restrictions if emergency measures are needed depending on defect severity.

Urban gas and LPG supply facilities, flood control facilities, and flood-prone facilities will also undergo thorough inspections during the thawing season to prevent accidents. In particular, rivers, rainwater pumping stations, sewage pipelines, rainwater inlets, sewage manholes, and 228 flood-prone facilities will be maintained to complete preparations before the rainy season.

The district will also conduct inspections of cleaning facilities and vehicles to collect garbage accumulated over the winter and prevent safety accidents during the thawing season.

Lee Soon-hee, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “We will do our utmost to prevent various accidents that may occur during the spring thawing season. We prioritize residents’ safety in all policies, so we ask residents to actively report any dangerous situations they discover.”
