Presentation at the Korea Robot Conference ... Increasing the Utilization of Snake-Type Robots
Professor Seojinho Seo's research team (Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering) at Pukyong National University received the Best Paper Award at the 19th Korea Robot Conference (KRoC2024).
At the conference held from the 21st to the 24th of last month at Phoenix Pyeongchang, Professor Seo's team received excellent evaluations in the poster category for their paper titled "A Study on I-PID Based Snake Robot Head Control Using RBF Neural Network and Robust Control."
The Korea Robot Conference is the largest domestic academic conference related to robotics, jointly organized by the Korean Robotics Society and the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement to share diverse engineering knowledge in the field of robotics and to expand academic fields related to robotics.
In this study, Professor Seo's team proposed an effective head control method for snake-type robots, which are used for purposes such as exploring narrow spaces, by applying the RBF neural network, an artificial intelligence technique, and robust control, a theory used to manage system uncertainties.
The research team suggested a strategy to independently control some of the joints in the head part of the snake robot and demonstrated a method to minimize camera shake occurring during the robot's movement through a robust control method combined with artificial neural networks.
Professor Seojinho Seo stated, "We expect this research to serve as a foundational study that can increase the utilization of snake-type robots as mobile robots."
