Monthly Payment of 100,000 KRW for Those with Median Income Below 100%
On the 4th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will ease the income criteria for recipients of child-rearing expenses for single-parent families starting this month.
This measure is intended to reduce the child-rearing burden on single-parent families, and newly selected recipients will receive a monthly support of 100,000 KRW.
Previously, child-rearing support for single-parent families provided 210,000 KRW per child per month until the child reached 18 years old if the household income was below 63% of the median income, or 350,000 KRW per month for teenage single-parent families where the mother or father was under 24 years old with income below 65% of the median income.
The city has raised the eligibility criteria to 100% of the median income (3.68 million KRW per month for a two-person household in 2024) with this expansion of support. Grandparent-headed families and teenage single-parent families are also included as recipients.
Those wishing to apply can do so at the administrative welfare centers in their jurisdiction or through the 'Bokjiro' website.
Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon City, said, "We will implement various support projects to create a stable child-rearing environment for single-parent families," adding, "We will do our best to make Icheon a great place to raise children."
