Mid-Nickel Cells for IT Devices Make Their Debut
LG Energy Solution will participate in 'InterBattery 2024,' the largest secondary battery industry exhibition in Korea, held for three days from the 6th to the 8th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Under the core theme of 'Customer Value Beyond Batteries Presented by LG Energy Solution,' the company plans to showcase innovative technologies based on overwhelming technological leadership, a diverse product portfolio based on various materials, and new businesses.
In particular, this year marks the first public unveiling of LG Energy Solution's pouch-type CTP (Cell to Pack) technology. Additionally, the exhibition will feature mid-nickel (Mid-Ni) pouch cells, LFP ESS cells, BMTS technology, and the ISUZU ELF electric commercial vehicle equipped with LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical cells, modules, and packs, attracting visitors' attention.
InterBattery, now in its 12th year, is an industrial exhibition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Korea Battery Industry Association. This year, a total of 579 companies, including major domestic secondary battery manufacturers like LG Energy Solution and companies related to materials, equipment, and components, are expected to participate.
First Public Unveiling of Pouch-Type Cell to Pack, Small Pouch Mid-Nickel Cell Also Debuts
LG Energy Solution’s exhibition space is the largest among participants, covering a total area of 540m2 (60 booths), and is divided into the ▲Mobility Zone ▲IT & New Application Zone ▲Core Technology Zone ▲New Business Zone ▲Sustainability Zone.
At the center of the exhibition hall, which is the first thing visitors see upon entering, LG Energy Solution’s pouch-type Cell to Pack, unveiled for the first time at this exhibition, will be displayed. The Cell to Pack battery is mounted on a car mock-up produced in a size similar to the actual vehicle, allowing visitors to see the new battery technology at a glance.
Cell to Pack technology is an advanced pack design gaining attention in the electric vehicle battery market. It eliminates the module stage in the traditional battery configuration and assembles cells directly into the pack, increasing energy density while reducing battery weight and cost.
Specifically, LG Energy Solution’s pouch-type Cell to Pack maintains the lightweight characteristics of pouch cells while enhancing pack rigidity and applying proven thermal transfer prevention technology to improve safety. By reducing the number of components that make up the pack and simplifying the manufacturing process, production costs are lowered, enhancing price competitiveness.
Also, in the IT & New Application Zone, a small pouch cell applying mid-nickel (Mid-Ni) composition, which further enhances price competitiveness, will be unveiled for the first time. This product supports high-voltage operation, combining efficiency and cost competitiveness, and is mainly used in IT devices such as laptops.
The ISUZU ELF mio EV truck located in the Mobility Zone is also a key highlight. The ELF EV is ISUZU’s first electric commercial vehicle, recognized as a traditional leader in the commercial vehicle market. The vehicle applies LG Energy Solution’s products including cells, modules, packs, and BMS, making it the first model to incorporate LG Energy Solution’s cylindrical pack and BMS technology.
In addition, the first product of the LFP standardized power grid ESS lineup, 'JF1 DC-Link,' and the new residential ESS product 'enblock S' will be exhibited. Next-generation battery technologies such as all-solid-state batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, and lithium-metal batteries will also be introduced, allowing visitors to explore LG Energy Solution’s diverse product portfolio and technological capabilities ranging from entry-level to premium products.
Beyond Battery 'Manufacturing,' Providing Customers with New 'Experience and Value'
Through this exhibition, LG Energy Solution will introduce its Battery Management Total Solution (BMTS) business, which goes beyond battery manufacturing to provide customers with new experiences and value.
Battery Management Total Solution is an advanced concept that enhances the existing Battery Management System (BMS) by offering services including BMS, specialized safety diagnostics and state estimation software for each battery, cloud services, and solutions suitable for future mobility (SDV), providing battery lifecycle management services.
Leveraging over 30 years of accumulated experience, LG Energy Solution plans to secure overwhelming technological leadership in the BMS business through differentiated analytical algorithms it has developed and to infinitely expand its business areas.
Additionally, new businesses such as AVEL, an in-house independent company of LG Energy Solution specializing in integrated renewable energy power grid management, KooRoo’s Battery Swapping Station (BSS) business for electric two-wheelers, and B-Lifecare, a comprehensive electric vehicle battery diagnostic service, will be showcased in the New Business Zone.
Furthermore, LG Energy Solution’s unique ESG management aimed at creating sustainable value as a global leader in the eco-friendly battery industry will also be introduced.
LG Energy Solution stated, "InterBattery 2024 is an opportunity to experience LG Energy Solution’s overwhelming technological leadership through innovative products and technologies that will lead the future," adding, "Visitors will be able to experience differentiated customer value through vivid experiential content and excellent exhibition production."
