"All Young Buskers Nationwide Gather" ... Daegu City Publicly Recruits 50 Teams for Dongsung-ro Street Performances

Payment of Performance Support Funds to the Selection Team

To revitalize the stagnant Dongseong-ro by creating a representative local performance space centered on young artists, the ‘Dongseong-ro Youth Busking’ event, which has been held since the second half of last year, will expand its format and scale this year to promote voluntary participation from young people nationwide by openly recruiting participating teams and awarding outstanding teams.

The teams selected through a nationwide open call will perform various genres of street performances at Dongseong-ro 28 Art Square, in front of the tourist information center, and other locations from April to November (excluding the hot summer month of August). Performances will be held about 60 times every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (from 6 PM to 9:30 PM), allowing young people to engage with the audience in Dongseong-ro. Outstanding teams will be offered various incentives.

Applicants must be teams or individuals composed of domestic or international youth aged between 19 and 39 who can perform street performances regardless of genre. A total of about 50 participating teams will be selected through screening.

Youth buskers selected as participating teams will be provided with more than three performance opportunities annually and a modest participation support fund. The final outstanding teams will receive various benefits such as prize money and exemption from next year’s Dongseong-ro Youth Busking audition.

The application deadline for Dongseong-ro Youth Busking participation is the 22nd.

As part of the ‘Dongseong-ro Renaissance Project’ to restore the reputation of Dongseong-ro, the heart of Daegu, ‘2024 Dongseong-ro Youth Busking Free-ism’ is promoted with the concept of a prism, encouraging participation from various entities including young people with diverse colors.

Additionally, through participation of local university music clubs, hosting youth artist forums, operating open mics open to the general public, and developing cooperative projects with the Dongseong-ro shopping district merchants’ association, plans will be made to explore ways for young artists, citizens, and merchants to coexist and prosper together.

Jo Kyung-sun, Director of the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Bureau, said, “We will make Dongseong-ro, the heart of Daegu, a fun and imaginative space filled with the passion and talent of young people through youth busking,” and added, “We hope for active interest and participation from young artists nationwide so that it can leap forward as a sacred place for youth busking.”
