Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch Sentences 2 Years Imprisonment
Law: "Must Take Responsibility for Not Improving Bad Habits"
A man in his 50s who was caught secretly filming women wearing shorts or dresses in Jeju was arrested by the court after committing the same crime again in Wonju while awaiting police investigation.
According to Yonhap News on the 2nd, "The Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch Criminal Division 1 (Chief Judge Kim Dohyung) sentenced A (59), who was indicted without detention for violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming and distribution using a camera, etc.), to two years in prison and ordered his immediate detention." According to the Yonhap report, the court also ordered A to complete a 40-hour sexual violence treatment lecture program, disclose and notify his personal information on the information and communication network for two years, and imposed a three-year employment restriction at institutions related to children, adolescents, and persons with disabilities.
A was caught on the spot last year on August 2nd after approaching female victims dressed in shorts or dresses in front of a convenience store and at a hotel elevator in Jeju City and secretly filming under their skirts with a mobile phone seven times. However, despite awaiting police investigation, A did not show remorse and on August 24th of the same year, around 9:40 p.m., he secretly filmed under the skirt of a woman in her 40s at a convenience store in Wonju, Gangwon Province, adding another criminal charge to the indictment. Additionally, A is also charged with drunk driving on a road in Wonju at around 10:03 p.m. on September 25th of the same year, driving a K9 passenger car about 10 cm while intoxicated with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.105%.
Previously, from July 2018 to the end of September of the same year, A was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a suspended sentence for secretly filming under the skirts of unspecified women 21 times. Furthermore, in September 2021, after the suspended sentence ended, he was fined for filming a woman’s body.
Chief Judge Kim stated, "The defendant was caught on the spot in Jeju but did not show remorse and committed the same crime in Wonju. Since the defendant’s bad habits have not improved despite orders to attend lectures, he must bear corresponding responsibility." A has appealed the first trial verdict.
