Gumi-si Holds 105th Anniversary 3.1 Movement Commemoration Ceremony ... Inspiring Noble Spirit Gumi City Hall.

The event began by inviting and encouraging the families of independence activists attending the ‘Gyeongsangbuk-do Sponsored March 1st Commemoration Ceremony’ at City Hall. From 9 a.m., about 80 people including families of independence activists, heads of veterans’ organizations, and heads of institutions and organizations participated. They paid tribute in sequence at the statue of Mr. Park Hee-gwang (Geumosan), the Wangsan Heo Wi Memorial Hall, the statue of Mr. Jang Jin-hong (Dongnak Park), and the Seonsan Independence Activists Monument (13 persons), having a meaningful time honoring the patriotic spirit of the independence activists.

To commemorate the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, the city raised about 1,700 street flags (Taegeukgi) along 12 sections within the city, and actively promoted the raising of the Taegeukgi among companies, organizations, and residents through the ‘Love for the Country Taegeukgi Raising Campaign,’ thereby elevating the prestige of the national heroes.

Since last year, Gumi City has significantly strengthened various veterans support policies such as increasing the ‘Honorary Veteran Allowance (city funds increased from 100,000 KRW to 150,000 KRW),’ abolishing and raising the age limit for the ‘Veterans Welfare Allowance (city funds increased from 50,000 KRW to 100,000 KRW),’ and establishing a new ‘Welfare Allowance for Spouses of Deceased Veterans (city funds 50,000 KRW).’ The city is also working to instill a proper sense of national identity in future generations and to promote the honor and pride of the veterans through diverse cultural events such as ‘Tours of Independence Movement Related Historic Sites’ and the ‘National Defense and Veterans Music Concert.’

Mayor Kim Jang-ho said, “We will continue to expand the respect and support for independence activists and their families, and lead veterans policies that inspire the noble spirit of that historic March 1st day,” expressing gratitude and respect for the noble sacrifice of the patriots.
