"Not Over with the Rejection of the Double Special Prosecutor Law"... Hong Ik-pyo Announces Plan to Respond to Additional Special Prosecutor Law

"Apologized for Allegations Related to Families of Former Presidents"
"No Truth That Can Be Hidden. If Guilty, Must Face Legal Judgment"

Hong Ik-pyo, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, commented on the rejection of the dual special investigation bill (related to suspicions of stock manipulation involving Kim Geon-hee, the wife of President Yoon Suk-yeol, and bribery allegations concerning the ‘50 Billion Club’ in the Daejang-dong development project), stating, "If there is guilt, they will inevitably have to stand trial before the law."

After the final rejection of the dual special investigation bill in the plenary session on the 29th, Floor Leader Hong released a statement saying, "The members of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea have betrayed their conscience," and added, "The dual special investigation bill, which was the demand of the people, has ultimately been discarded." He continued, "The President and the People Power Party have ultimately chosen Kim Geon-hee over the people," criticizing, "The President’s veto power is another word for arrogance and dictatorship."

He pointed out, "The special investigation into Kim Geon-hee was a stern command from the people," and said, "More than 60% of the people supported it, and we all know that the negative evaluation of President Yoon Suk-yeol is linked to his exercise of the presidential veto."

He added, "Despite overwhelming evidence such as 2.3 billion won in profits, recorded conversations, and the accounts used for stock manipulation, there has never been a single prosecution summons or search and seizure," and stated, "Since democratization, all past presidents have publicly apologized to the people for family scandals and accepted the allegations."

Floor Leader Hong warned, "I issue a warning to President Yoon Suk-yeol and the People Power Party," and said, "The rejection of the bill today does not mean the end. There is no truth that can be hidden. The truth will inevitably come to light, and if there is guilt, they will inevitably have to stand trial before the law."

He also expressed his intention to pursue follow-up measures, including additional special investigation bills related to Kim Geon-hee. Floor Leader Hong said, "We will prepare another special investigation bill," and added, "There are many additional controversies related to Kim Geon-hee. We will reorganize and prepare to propose a special investigation bill focusing on criminal allegations related to items such as luxury bags and the Yangpyeong Expressway."
