Overcoming Disabilities: Twin Brothers Tak Hyun-min and Sumin Enroll Together at Gunsan University

"I want to continue my studies and help others"

At Kunsan National University, twin brothers Tak Hyun-min and Tak Su-min, who have severe physical disabilities (brain lesions), have been admitted through transfer, drawing attention.


According to the university on the 29th, the brothers transferred into the 3rd year of the Department of Child Studies (Tak Hyun-min) and the Department of History (Tak Su-min) to continue pursuing their dreams and hopes in academics. Earlier, the elder brother Tak Hyun-min graduated this year from the Department of Disability Counseling Psychology at Hankyong National University, and the younger brother Tak Su-min graduated from the same university's Department of Public Administration.


The two brothers, who are usually passionate and altruistic about their studies, said, "Even after graduation, we want to continue our studies and become people who help others."

The elder brother Tak Hyun-min is very interested in psychological counseling and hopes to continue studying counseling for students with disabilities similar to himself. Tak Su-min, who is interested in history, expressed his feelings, saying, "I am happy to be able to devote myself to studying history along with the transfer admission."


Tak Hyun-min has obtained a Level 2 Psychological Counselor certification, and Tak Su-min is preparing for the Korean History certification exam.


President Lee Jang-ho said, "As a higher education institution for people with disabilities, Kunsan National University provides meticulous support so that students with disabilities can complete their studies without inconvenience," adding, "We will continue to focus on improving welfare and benefits for students with disabilities and create a more convenient educational environment."


Meanwhile, Kunsan National University centrally manages support activities for students with disabilities through the Disability Student Support Center, providing mobility assistants and daily life helpers for the use of convenience facilities and mobility support.


The university gives priority registration rights so that students can take all the courses they want. It operates programs to support convenience and learning for students with disabilities, such as lending teaching and learning equipment, providing note-taking helpers, and offering scholarships for students with disabilities.
