Seoul Police Prevent New Semester Crimes... Deploy 1,200 'Child Safety Guardians'

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and the Seoul Autonomous Police Committee will deploy 'Child Safety Guardians' in the Seoul area to prevent school violence and child crimes at the start of the new semester.

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 3rd that starting from the 4th, when the new semester begins, a total of 1,218 Child Safety Guardians will be selected and deployed across Seoul. The selected individuals will be responsible for 609 elementary schools in Seoul, conducting patrols and other safety activities to prevent school violence and child crimes. The operation period will last until December 31 of this year.

Child Safety Guardians are auxiliary security personnel who have been operating since 2013 to ensure child safety. Since 2022, the program has been transferred to autonomous police affairs and is currently operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency. Last year, the Child Safety Guardians carried out a total of 6,892 safety activities, with 'violence prevention' (1,479 cases) being the most frequent type of activity. This was followed by 'missing person prevention' (1,166 cases) and 'delinquency guidance' (749 cases).

A representative from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency stated, "In cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, we will collect opinions from elementary school parents, students, and teachers using home communication letters (E-Notification), analyze the collected opinions, and establish region-specific customized plans."
