Uiryeong 'Nonggyeong Munhwa Promotion Center' Renovated with Agricultural History and Experience Facilities Arranged

Dreaming Farmers and Future Agriculture Exhibition at a Glance

The Gyeongnam Uiryeong Agricultural Culture Promotion Center has completed its renovation and will reopen on March 1. The previously visual and flat exhibition facility has been transformed into a space where visitors can touch and directly experience the exhibits.

The Agricultural Culture Promotion Center was established in 2012 in the Mujeon and Jeongam-ri areas of Uiryeong-eup, displaying over 350 traditional farming tools and household items to showcase the fading agricultural culture at a glance.

At the time of its opening, the exhibition facility was noted as suitable for the rural city of Uiryeong-gun, but it lacked distinctiveness compared to folk museums in other regions, and due to aging facilities, annual visitors remained at only around 3,000, making a major renovation necessary.

County Governor Oh Tae-wan directed a full renovation of the Agricultural Culture Promotion Center using local extinction response funds secured in 2022.

Governor Oh expressed his intention to develop the Uiryeong Agricultural Culture Theme Park comprehensively by integrating the Agricultural Culture Promotion Center with nearby folk bullfighting stadium, insect ecology learning center, and agricultural product distribution center, and to revitalize it in connection with the Mirae Education Center, the largest future experience education facility established in Uiryeong-eup.

With a project budget of 800 million KRW and five months of construction, the Agricultural Culture Promotion Center was completely revamped under the theme "Learning the True Attitude of Life from the Peaceful Land of Uiryeong's Agricultural Culture." The exhibition was organized into three sections: "Culture Farmers," learning agricultural history; "Future Farmers," experiencing future agriculture; and "Challenge Farmers," instilling a spirit of challenge and courage in children, all under the goal of "Dream Farmer."

In particular, the second exhibition hall was transformed into an "interactive and play-oriented" space, enhancing interest with three-dimensional and diverse exhibits rather than flat viewing, and placing various engaging experience facilities at the forefront.

In the second exhibition hall, visitors can freely manipulate the color, size, and speed of images on the screen to learn about smart farms. The content is designed to be interesting and in-depth so that children can freely explore their dreams of future agriculture in a virtual smart farm.

Additionally, the types of Uiryeong specialty products and their production processes are presented as interactive experiences, offering a unique encounter. The "Crops I Planted" corner allows children to plant seeds and harvest through graphics, helping them understand the wonders of nature and the hard work of farmers.

Moreover, visitors can glimpse the agricultural life of ancestors through viewing over 300 traditional farming tools and household items needed for each season, and a unique space has been created where visitors can meet the legendary bulls "Beom-i" and "Ggeokswi" from Uiryeong's bullfighting tradition.

Meanwhile, Uiryeong-gun plans to make the newly reopened Agricultural Culture Promotion Center a must-visit local tourist spot by linking it with the popular Insect Ecology Learning Center, which surpassed 500,000 cumulative visitors last month. The "ecology" of the Insect Ecology Learning Center and the "traditional culture" of the Agricultural Culture Promotion Center are expected to harmonize well through the common theme of "education," garnering strong responses from visitors.

Governor Oh Tae-wan said, "The Agricultural Culture Promotion Center, which had not been activated due to locational disadvantages and various constraints, has found new possibilities through this full renovation by linking with other tourist resources. The reopening of the Agricultural Culture Promotion Center is like giving wings to the tourist city of Uiryeong. We will ensure it becomes a place that offers visitors both fun and meaningful special experiences and receives much love."

Meanwhile, the Agricultural Culture Promotion Center operates from Tuesday to Sunday, with hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
