"Do You Still Love Your Husband?"... 'Love Triangle of the Century' Letter Up for Auction in the UK

Eric Clapton "If You Still Have Feelings for Me, Please Let Me Know"

Genius guitarist Eric Clapton's love letter to model Patti Boyd, who was the wife of Beatles member George Harrison, is set to be auctioned at Christie's in the UK.

On the 27th (local time), the US CNN reported that Christie's UK auction house plans to hold an online auction from the 8th to the 21st of next month, featuring letters, postcards, photos, telegrams, and other items that Boyd had kept. Among the items up for auction is a letter sent by Clapton to Boyd, Harrison's wife, in 1970.

In the letter, Clapton wrote, "I am writing this letter to confirm your feelings on a subject we both know well," and asked, "I want to ask if you still love your husband or if you have another lover." He continued, "I know all these questions are rude, but if you still have feelings for me in your heart... you must let me know." Clapton also requested Boyd to reply by letter instead of phone, adding, "That is much safer."

Boyd said that when she first saw the letter signed with an 'E' from Clapton, she thought it was from a strange fan and even showed it to Harrison. Boyd said, "It was a very beautifully written letter, but the handwriting was so small that it didn't even fill a third of the page," adding, "Clapton seemed somewhat shy about writing. It felt more like a whisper than words."

However, despite Boyd's rejection, Clapton reportedly continued to express his love for her. In another letter written on a torn page from the novel Of Mice and Men, Clapton wrote, "If you do not want me, please break the spell that binds me," and added, "It is a sin to cage a wild animal, and sacred to tame one." This letter is also expected to be included in the upcoming auction.

Meanwhile, Boyd, a model from the UK, is famous for the "love triangle of the century" involving Harrison and Clapton. She first met Harrison while appearing in the Beatles' autobiographical film A Hard Day’s Night. The two fell in love and married in 1965, but divorced in 1977 due to Harrison's infidelity and drug problems. Boyd later married Clapton in 1979, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1989 due to Clapton's alcoholism and other issues.

During this period, some globally famous songs were born. Harrison's "Something," Clapton's "Layla," and "Wonderful Tonight" are examples. All of these were love songs dedicated to Boyd. She is currently active as a photographer and philanthropist.
