"Public Expectations for Politics Are High... We Will Reform Politics and Prosecution"
"Opening the Era of Sovereignty, Dedicated to Serving Politics and Restoring Democracy with Utmost Effort"
Kim Seong-jin, the Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Gwangsan-gu (Eul), Gwangju Metropolitan City, emphasized, "I will inherit the spirit of Gwangju and revive Honam politics through political reform and prosecution reform."
On the 28th, Candidate Kim released a press statement saying, "The public's expectations for politics are high," and "Especially in Gwangju, democracy and reform have been longed for and protected."
He continued, "Politics has the obligation to respond to the public's aspirations and expectations," and stated, "I will inherit the spirit of Gwangju through political reform and prosecution reform, uphold democratic values, and take the lead in checking power."
Candidate Kim is determined to practice servant leadership through political reform that opens an era of complete sovereignty.
Specifically, he proposed ▲introducing a recall system for members of the National Assembly ▲establishing legal grounds to realize the principle of no work, no pay for members of the National Assembly ▲reducing the scope of parliamentary immunity for members of the National Assembly.
As for prosecution reform measures, he suggested ▲securing the neutrality of the prosecution by promoting the introduction of a U.S.-style grand jury system ▲establishing legal grounds for guidelines on separate investigations to limit separate investigations ▲promoting discussions on switching to an election system for the Prosecutor General to restore the prosecution's practical political neutrality.
Candidate Kim said, "By leading political reform and prosecution reform, I will add strength to Gwangju, the heart of democracy, as a conscience in action to write the history of the Republic of Korea, and the Democratic Party will work tirelessly to achieve a change of government and restore democracy."
Candidate Kim Seong-jin graduated from Gwangju Daedong High School and Konkuk University, passed the 33rd Administrative Examination (Finance and Economy), and served as spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, director of Gwangju Technopark, and full-time vice president of the Korea Display Industry Association. He is an expert in jobs and industrial economy. Expectations are high that he will bring a breeze of regional economic revitalization based on his extensive professional experience in central government agencies and his personal network in the central government.
