The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office held an 'Eco-plogging event' on the afternoon of the 27th at Geumgok Village, Samrangjin-eup, Miryang-si, Gyeongnam Province to reduce fine dust in rural areas.

Plogging is a compound word of the Swedish "plocka upp," meaning grain harvesting, and walking, referring to the activity of picking up trash while walking.

About 80 people from related organizations, including Miryang City, Samrangjin-eup, Geumgok Village, the Korea Forest Service, Korea Environment Corporation, and Korea Environmental Preservation Agency, participated in the event to collect abandoned trash around the village and conduct a campaign to eradicate illegal burning.

During this campaign, the Korea Environment Corporation and Miryang Agricultural Technology Center provided guidance on the proper disposal methods for agricultural waste and residues, and the Korea Forest Service offered on-site shredding support services.

Eco-plogging was organized as part of the 5th Fine Dust Seasonal Management Plan to reduce fine dust in rural areas, aiming to encourage active participation from village residents in preventing illegal burning in rural communities.

Chief Choi Jong-won stated, "Reducing fine dust in rural areas depends on improving residents' awareness and spreading a culture of practice," and added, "We ask for your active cooperation in eradicating illegal burning of agricultural residues to reduce fine dust in rural areas."
