Shinan Hahido Hadongyeon Teacher Generously Donates 200 Million Won to Disciples Protecting Their Hometown
"I Will Fulfill My Dreams at Sea with Love to Repay the Grace"
A small but meaningful event took place on the 24th in Ha-ui-myeon, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do.
According to Sinan-gun on the 28th, Mr. Ha Dong-yeon, who was newly appointed as an ethics teacher at Ha-ui High School, purchased a 4.11-ton class Haeseongho (coastal multipurpose fishing vessel) with his retirement pay for two of his former students who are living and working in their hometown, and held a launching ceremony.
The launching ceremony was held with about 70 attendees, including acquaintances of Mr. Ha Dong-yeon, residents of Eoeun 2-gu (Piseom) village, and local organization executives. The ceremony proceeded with the reading of a ritual prayer to avoid natural disasters and to wish for smooth fishing operations, followed by congratulations from the attendees wishing for a bountiful catch.
The co-owners of Haeseongho, Kim Gwang-kwon and Kim Nam-jin, have had a strong passion for fishing since childhood, staying in their hometown and making a living through village fishing and diving.
Hearing that they were struggling to prepare funds to purchase a fishing vessel due to the limitations of barehand fishing, Mr. Ha Dong-yeon generously provided 200 million won from his retirement pay to help his students start the fishing business they had long desired.
Mr. Ha Dong-yeon said, “I am happy to be able to offer a small help to my students, as I cannot forget the good memories and longing for Ha-ui-myeon, my first workplace.”
Kim Gwang-kwon and Kim Nam-jin expressed their aspirations, saying, “We are grateful to our teacher who always loved his students like his own children and has cared for us even after many years. We will do our best in our fishing activities to repay the teacher’s grace who helped us realize our dreams at sea.”
